Honorable Mention

I entered a couple of works in the annual online show of the Oil Pastel Society, and was pleased to learn that my little plein air of blueberry fields (posted here in August) was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Professional category. I was also surprised , because of the amazing quality of the work that was entered.

(This one is now in The Dunes for the 2014 season)
"Rush Hour in Meadowbank", oil pastel, 9x11

I finished off 2012 with a couple of acrylic paintings. My son Mike asked for one of the Reversing Falls bridge, and this one took two panels.
And since we were helping him set up his apartment, I made a portrait of his old skateboarding sneakers for Christmas.

A Commission
I was commissioned to do a painting for a wedding present for the same couple mentioned in a recent post. The couple went through my photographs and selected this scene, of the dock  where they often went swimming. Here it is at low tide, as the sun is burning off the morning mist. 12x16  (SOLD)

Art In The Open was fun!  Lots of people stopped to look and chat.
After two hours I was finished this one   (SOLD)
and then I went up by the gallery, met several of the other artists ( Richard Vickerson , Sandi Komst, and Gale Abbey) and spent another two hours painting from a photo I had brought.

Here's another one on the wall at Details, Past and Present gallery. 9x19.
                                                                                      ( SOLD)
The city-wide Art in the Open takes place this coming weekend , and artists exhibiting at Details are going to be at Victoria Row painting the sidewalk cafes, etc, en plein air. Here's hoping for good weather.

This is a recent 8x10 studio piece based on a plein air work done in 2007. The sun was shining through the grasses, making them glow; a difficult color to capture, and to photograph.          at The Dunes Gallery        SOLD

little ones

July was very busy and didn't give me much time for art-making. I got a couple of plein airs in while my husband was doing some paragliding stuff. Both are around 4"x6".
                                                                                SOLD
                          SOLD
Then I did a 5x7 for part of a shower gift for a young relative. Bride and groom both grew up on farms in PEI and are now living in a city in Ontario. This is the groom's home; my daughter Julie painted the one for the bride.

ready for the third gallery

These three are going to The Dunes Gallery as soon as I can deliver them. All three were very difficult to photograph accurately and look better in real life, and I forgot to take a picture of "Kitchen Table" , done on suede matboard, until it was framed under glass.  All are oil pastels
"Heritage Road Haymeadow", 11x14          (EDIT: this one is now at Details, Past and Present)                                                               SOLD

Heritage Roads in P.E.I. are unpaved and cannot be developed within a certain distance of the road.
"Kingston Hills",   6 1/2x14 1/2     SOLD

"Kitchen Table"  8 1/2x 8 1/2   This is a larger version of a little one I did in 2009, now in a private collection.
                                                                       (SOLD)

I've been out a few times with my oil pastels and have done some plein air work, just little ones. They are posted in the blog section of my page on the Plein Air Painters website.

Winter 2012

First commission of 2012:

This is a scene from the unique Caribbean island of Saba. The reference photo is mine, taken in March 2011, and is a view of Mt. Scenery, a dormant volcano. The person who commissioned it had spent time on Saba the previous year.

I am now represented in Saint John by Handworks Gallery
These 3 paintings (from 2011 except for the third one, which was completed this year) are now hanging there.
                                                                                                             (SOLD)

                                                                                                           (SOLD)

Just delivered these 3  to Details Past and Present Gallery in Charlottetown:
                                                    (SOLD)

                                                                                     SOLD

Now I'm getting a few ready for when The Dunes opens next month, and will show them in a later post.

All of the above are oil pastels. Here are a few in other media.
This is a small gouache study. I will likely use it for a studio painting later on.

These are all done for the WetCanvas Weekend Drawing Events. The stray cat is PanPastels on Canson, and the other two are acrylics.                      (SOLD)
